Access? ACCESS?! We Don't Need No Stinking ACCESS!
Continuing the theme I touched on earlier concerning how certain people are so into cultivating lucrative friendships with the rich and powerful that they somehow forget to be journalists, I want to share with you Josh Marshall's description of how the Randy "Duke" Cunningham scandal -- which led to Cunningham's indictment, conviction and resignation from Congress -- was unearthed. Guess what? It was done through plain old-fashioned reporting techniques, not through sucking up to movers and shakers, and no fancy-dancy expense-account "access" lunches at power-luncher bistros were necessary.
