Politicizing 9/11

A House resolution drafted by the House Republicans supposedly to commemorate the September 11 attacks is, in fact, a shameless ploy to boost the Republican "security" agenda.

Democrats criticized the GOP-drafted resolution for praising controversial legislation, including the USA Patriot Act and a border security bill. Some faulted it for stating "the nation is safer than it was on Sept. 11, 2001."
The bill's sponsor calls the criticism "cheap demagoguery". There's definitely cheap demagoguery involved, but it's not the Democrats who are guilty of it.
Comments:
Republican "security" agenda? Damn those republicans for wanting this country to be safe.

The Republicans' priority has not been keeping the country safe. They used the September attacks as an excuse to pass legislation that takes away our privacy and other civil liberties, but didn't do a thing to actually improve security either at our borders are within them.

As Senator Landrieu said, "I'd like to state for the record that America is not tired of fighting terrorism; America is tired of the wrongheaded and boneheaded leadership of the Republican party that has sent six and a half billion a month to Iraq while the front line was Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. That led this country to attack Saddam Hussein, when we were attacked by Osama bin Laden. Who captured a man who did not attack the country and let loose a man that did."

The Republicans have obviously screwed-up priorities. We can't expect them to pass legislation that would really achieve the stated purpose of making the country safer.

Well, there *are* two less terrorism targets in NYC now, so I guess the Republican strategy must be working...

The really scary thing is that Chertoff basically came out and said that bin Laden is trying to trick us into spending lots of money to improve our security, and BushCo. is just too smart to fall for it.

So in other words, inaction really *is* their plan, and that was their lameass way of justifying it, by claiming that securing ports or plants would just play right into Osama's hands. Jebus.

Chuck E. Cheese says, "Damn those republicans for wanting this country to be safe."

No.

Damn them for pretending to do so while spilling the blood of fine men and women into the sands of Iraq.

Damn them for failing to keep the country safe on 9/11.

Damn them for blocking investigations of their failure to keep the country safe.

Damn them for failing to evacuate New Orleans, as the president-- and the president alone-- is statutorily required to do.

Damn them for lavishing money on their corporate cronies, while leaving New Orleans in danger.

And damn them especially for being smug, smarmy, sanctimonious little liars.
