Dubya's callousness, FEMA's incompetence, and the usual corruption and cronyism are beyond anything we've seen in this country.
Forget impeachment. It's time for pitchforks and torches.
One of the NPR reporters had a great comment. He said, "Here are all these people forced [ed: literally, at gunpoint, by troops] to live like animals. And yet they chose to treat one another with dignity, to share small kindnesses."
. The hits just keep on coming in for the Marie file:
British families trapped in New Orleans last night claimed that US authorities had refused to evacuate them as Hurricane Katrina approached the city. Although assistance was offered to US residents, British nationals were told they would have to fend for themselves.
WAS IT LINCOLN WHO SAID, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, you can fool all of the people some of the time, you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. Are we getting there?
Make mine German double chocolate.
ReplyDeleteThe one relief is that Laura is clearly not in charge of the president's wardrobe.
I mean, say what you will about his arrogance, blind stupidity, and irresponsibility, *that's* a classy dress.
Here's one that definitely makes the Marie Antoinette files:
ReplyDeleteThree tons of food ready for delivery by air to refugees in St. Bernard Parish and on Algiers Point sat on the Crescent City Connection bridge Friday afternoon as air traffic was halted because of President Bush’s visit to New Orleans, officials said.
The provisions, secured by U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, and state Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom, baked in the afternoon sun as Bush surveyed damage across southeast Louisiana five days after Katrina made landfall as a Category 4 storm, said Melancon’s chief of staff, Casey O’Shea.
“We had arrangements to airlift food by helicopter to these folks, and now the food is sitting in trucks because they won’t let helicopters fly,” O’Shea said Friday afternoon.
This is another for the Marie files. It's not a hoax. I downloaded it from the ARC site myself:
ReplyDeleteHurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?
Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.
The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.
Apparently, the city was the agency that decided to open the Superdome and the Convention Center, which ARC says saved countless lives.
FEMA was busy helping Condi pick out new shoes.

ReplyDeleteAnd yet another one for the Marie Antoinette files. The president DID respond quickly to the hurricane

Good enough to die for us in Iraq, not good enough to be treated the same of us in disaster

ReplyDeleteKeep reading, LP.
ReplyDeleteWe deal with all these issues.
Edith, it was Lincoln who said that you couldn't fool all the people all of the time.
He was also the last Republican who believed it.
