'Nanny' or Smokescreen?
With all the revelations of the past few days about Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani's protégé and proposed SuperCop to the nation -- the secret first wife, the Iraq sleaze, girlfriend abuse, Mob sleaze, and other sleaze, and the Bushies' not caring about all of that, we still don't know one thing: The name of Kerik's alleged 'nanny'.
Media Cynic, to her credit, smelled a smokescreen right from the start. And Josh Marshall notes that we know nothing for sure about the nanny: the information we've been given is all contradictory.
Ironically (or perhaps with poetic justice) what was likely a good cover story turned around to bite Janklow in the rear when he drove through a stopsign and killed a Minnesotan.
When a Republican leader ever admits to something, it is not unkind nor unfair to first assume that a minor admission is cover for something else that is a major problem or actually serious crime.
Even if it is Christmas time and a charitable attitude may be appropriate for most things, it is unwise to extend it to GOP leadership or officeholders of anykind.
Ho, Ho, Ho...and a hearty Bah, humbug....
And as for Janklow: I believe that you refer to his connection to the late Jancita Eagle Deer.
I heard indirect stories about truly "youthful indiscretions" by a very indirect route which involved children of Flandreau parents (who were about Janklow's age) repeating their parents stories. Any such court records have all been "cleaned up", so probably no proof exists. SD Pub TV had a special propaganda piece on Janklow after he was out of Governors office that seemed to spend an inordinant amount of time on the traffic violations angle in Janklow's Youth. This was years before the fatal crash.
But, Kerik may even be a bigger piece of work than Janklow, even if Janklow did set some high standards in that regard.
