Today's Question

How come fake reporter Jim "Jeff Gannon" Guckert was allowed by the Bush White House to attend press conferences, while the late real reporter Sarah McClendon was not? I think we know why. It's precisely because McClendon was a real reporter. And now we also know another reason why most of the rest of the White House press corps refuses to ask Bush any actual questions: Because they, too, might lose their press passes -- just like Sarah McClendon did.

Comments:
Hear that? That's the sound of the world's smallest violin playing someplace.

Of the 300 or so newsies credentialed by Senate Press Gallery officials, dozens are in fact unqualified or underqualified by Senate rules for accreditation. Here are the 10 worst cases, counting them down to No. 1:

No. 10: McClendon News Service.

In fact, it's no news service at all. It's a 90-year-old woman who writes (from a small, cluttered D.C. apartment) a weekly column which next to no newspaper runs.

Her name is Sarah McClendon, noted for her inane questions at presidential press conferences. You probably remember this classic lobbed in 1999 to President Clinton at his first formal press conference since being impeached:

"Sir, will you tell us why you think people have been so mean to you?"

Despite her pro-Democrat, pro-big-government bias, McClendon has been described by reporters at ABC News, the Washington Post and other old establishment media as a "nut," "an old fool" and a "pathetic hack."

Hey, Anonymous smearer of a dead woman! (Yes, I know you're the same guy.) Why don't you leave a link for your cites? Is it because you made them up yourself, or is it because you drew them some low-circulation Nazi publication and you don't want anyone to catch on to this?

Meanwhile, I have cites -- real cites, from legitimate journalist groups and other respected organizations -- to show that you are, as usual with conservative spam artists, full of crap:

USA Today liked Sarah McClendon and honored her many decades of journalism -- and USA Today is, as you know, a Republican newspaper.

The National Press Club liked and respected her, too.

So did the Women's Research and Education Institute. In fact, a Google search shows her to have been universally respected.

Oh, and she wasn't a $200-an-hour hooker, like your favorite Republican rent boy, Jim "Jeff Gannon" Guckert.
