The Bankruptcy Bill Fight: The Endgame

Well, we now know which of the Senate Democrats have sold their souls to the usurers: Sen. Joe Biden (D-Delaware) Commander-in-Chief (The Senator from MBNA) Sen. Tom Carper (D-Delaware) Captain Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota) Sen. Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia) Sen. Kent "the Kernel" Conrad (D-North Dakota) Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin) Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-Lousiana) Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Connecticut) Spy Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Arkansas) Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Florida) Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Arkansas) Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colorado) Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) They could have stopped this horrible bill in its tracks with a vote to allow for extended debate. They could have voted for the many Democratic amendments that really would have made this bill go after the REAL deadbeats, while sparing those families who fell into debt through medical emergencies or other acts over which they had no control. But they didn't. And they'll likely vote to approve this monstrosity, as written by the Republicans and their credit-card usurer friends, within the next two days. It's time to make them sweat. And if they screw us again with a "yes" vote later this week, it's time to make them pay -- with primary challengers. Keep up the phone calls. (202) 224-3121 gets you the Senate switchboard. Write letters. Use the links here for ammo. We were blindsided by this bill -- I myself didn't know it was coming up until barely a week ago. If we'd had the lead time on this that we had on Social Security, we could have done better. But if nothing else, we now have the DINOs on record. Furthermore, we also have the Republicans on record as favoring usury -- and opposing any efforts by Democrats like Ted Kennedy and Mark Dayton to make this bill a fair bill that reforms instead of deforms. We can use this against them in 2006 -- and 2008. This is only the beginning of the fight.
