Now that's what I call a successful nomination: Bush's man in Rome

We know the Bushes reward their friends and punish their enemies, but you have to say, this takes the cake. New Pope Intervened against Kerry in US 2004 Election Campaign Agence France-Presse Tuesday 19 April 2005 Washington - German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the Vatican theologian who was elected Pope Benedict XVI, intervened in the 2004 US election campaign ordering bishops to deny communion to abortion rights supporters including presidential candidate John Kerry....A footnote to the letter also condemned any Catholic who votes specifically for a candidate because the candidate holds a pro-abortion position. Such a voter "would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for holy communion," the letter read. Ok, so let's get this right. Any voter who votes for a candidate specifically because the candidate is in favor of aggressive war "would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil" and could be condemned to Hell (because that's what denial of holy communion potentially means). Any voter who votes for a candidate specifically because the candidate is in favor of grinding down the poor "would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil" and worthy of Hell? And so on. That would ensure that Ratzinger isn't a hypocrite. Hypocrisy is the sin Jesus hated above all others and implied was the only one that led to eternal damnation (Matt. 12:32).
