Two Years Later, Twice The Malnutrition

The top half of the front page of the NYT's dead-tree edition today is taken up by the the Terri Schiavo endgame, and the NYT found enough space at the bottom to mention Millenium Plot hero Sandy Berger's being punished by his political enemies in the Bush Junta for daring to make and take home handwritten notes and copies of his own Millenium Plot investigation documents. But for some reason, the NYT just couldn't seem to find room on its front page for the fact that two years after the US invasion, twice as many Iraqi kids are being starved now than were suffering under Saddam. So, let's recap: When we bombed and killed tens of thousands of Iraqis, the wingnuts said "But Saddam still has WMD!" When the troops didn't find any WMD, the wingnuts said "But at least Iraqis aren't being tortured by Saddam at Abu Ghraib any more!" When the word came out that US forces were torturing Iraqis at Abu Ghraib, the wingnuts said "But at least most Iraqis are now better off than they were under Saddam!" Not if you're female. Not if you're a child. Not if you're a Westernized Iraqi. Not if you're dead.
