John Bolton, Chickenhawk!
Yet another thing that absolutely fails to surprise me: John Bolton, just like Bush, Cheney, Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, Pat Buchanan, and pretty much every other prominent Republican of his generation, managed to avoid serving in Vietnam. What an astounding coincidence! I note that the only prominent Republican politicians that actually did serve in 'Nam -- namely, McCain and Hagel -- are precisely those that are the most ostracized by the party leadership. (Though Hagel may have an ace in the hole, namely an interest in touch-screen voting machines that leave no paper trails.)
