Judith Miller, Embedded
The more clueless members of the press corpse (unfortunately a majority) are trying to portray Judith Miller as a martyr for the First Amendment. Sorry, but no. As Christine Lavin sings it, "She's not a victim, she's a volunteer." Judy's relationship with people in power has been a little too cozy for her to play the "free and independent press" card now. On June 25, 2003, Howard Kurtz reported in the Washington Post:
New York Times reporter Judith Miller played a highly unusual role in an Army unit assigned to search for dangerous Iraqi weapons, according to U.S. military officials, prompting criticism that the unit was turned into what one official called a "rogue operation." ...On April 21, when the MET Alpha team was ordered to withdraw to the southern Iraqi town of Talil, Miller objected in a handwritten note to two public affairs officers.... One military officer, who says that Miller sometimes "intimidated" Army soldiers by invoking Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld or Undersecretary Douglas Feith, was sharply critical of the note.Exactly what connections does Judith Miller have with the Bush Administration, that she figured she could get her way by invoking top Administration officials?
How slick is Chalabi? He still has friends in the Bush Junta, even after anyone with a brain realizes what he's done: Neutralize Iran's two biggest enemies (Iraq and the US) by playing a glorified version of "Let's you and him fight."
It would almost be admirable, if around 150,000 persons hadn't died because of it.
