It's a Movement

William Rivers Pitt is keeping vigil with Cindy Sheehan outside the Prairie Chickenhawk, er, Prairie Chapel. His last post for today is:

The sun is finally beginning to set behind a small line of trees, and the crowd has begun to thin out. The official count for today's gathering was 705, not counting press. Given the fact that we are in a drainage ditch by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, that is a great number. It will grow tomorrow again.
Which brings back memories:
You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of them. And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in singing a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said fifty people a day walking in singing a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. And friends they may think it's a movement. And that's what it is, the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement, and all you got to do to join is sing it the next time it comes around.
I bet a lot of the people keeping vigil with Cindy Sheehan know "Alice's Restaurant." It'd be a beautiful thing for them to serenade the Busheviks driving by on their way to the fundraiser on Friday.
Comments:
And for those who have forgotten the lyrics, or maybe never learned them, or--worse still-- never learned why they came into being, here is the full story:

Arlo explains

Oh-- and I sent an e-mail to Arlo asking him to give Ms. Sheehan some musical accompaniment as she sings in George Bush's recruitment center.

Readers can, too. Just be sure to set it to Arlo, rather than to the webmaster, Dave Downing

Also, you can see where Alice lived at The Guthrie Center

As pig-headed and totally immune to irony as he pathetically is, I would not be taken aback a single step if Bush were to have the Secret Service and Crawford police arrest the lot of them for... littering.

The Alice's Restaurant Massacree in the three-part harmony with the forty-seven 8x10 color glossy photographs!

"Walk right in, it's around the back/'bout a half a mile from the railroad tracks/Yew kin git ennythin' yew woont/at Alice's Restaurant!"

(Oh, yes, and good on you, MEC and Charles!)

WHY ARE YOU ON YOUR ASS AT YOUR COMPUTER WHEN YOU COULD BE IN TEXAS OR IN IRAQ PROTECTING BROWN PEOPLE FROM THE EMPIRE?
