Treasongate: Novak Lies (Again)

In Robert Novak's recent column excusing himself for ignoring the CIA's warning not to reveal Valerie Plame Wilson's role as an undercover operative, he included a gratuitous sideswipe at Joseph Wilson:

Joseph Wilson was discarded a year ago by the Kerry presidential campaign after the Senate committee reported much of what he said "had no basis in fact."
That sure smelled like a lie to me; and now Tim Grieve has provided a solid refutation of it, in Salon's War Room:
Responding to our post earlier today, Gannon says his story about Kerry and Wilson was "rock solid" and that "Wilson was dumped -- hard." Not so, says Peter Daou, who ran Kerry's Web site and says the Wilson references were deleted as part of a larger redesign. And not so, says David Wade, who was Kerry's campaign spokesman. Wade told us earlier today that Wilson drew standing-room-only crowds as a surrogate for Kerry, and that the claim that he was somehow "discarded" by the campaign is "a classic Novakian regurgitation of only-on-Newsmax misinformation." And indeed, a little Google searching of our own suggests that Wade is right: In October 2004, just weeks before the election, it appears that Wilson was still on the road for the Democratic nominee, headlining a fundraiser for the Kerry-Edwards campaign in Arizona.
In the earlier post, Grieve also scuttles the "no basis in fact" Swift Boat:
The "no basis in fact" characterization wasn't included in the Report on the U.S. Intelligence Community's Prewar Intelligence Assessments on Iraq filed by the 17 members of the committee. Rather, it came in a separate statement filed by three Republican senators -- Pat Roberts, Christopher Bond and Orrin Hatch -- who apparently couldn't get any of the 14 other senators on the committee to agree with them.

Comments:
That's why we call him "NoFacts".

Geez Louise, Paul Krugman got his ass reamed out and was made to apologize in print because he'd made a cite in good faith of part of a Jason Leopold Salon that Leopold wasn't able to fully verify. Novak makes up crap on the spot and nothing happens to him.

Tell me again about the allegedly "liberal" media, Mommy.

Arrrgh. Make that "Salon article".
