Where are the Democrats? Not in Crawford.
I know why I am not in Crawford to stand by Cindy Sheehan. I can't be.
But Congress is on vacation.
So, where are the Democrats?
Well, maybe some of them have health problems. I wouldn't expect the elderly Senator Byrd to stand out in summer Texas heat.
Some of them live so far away that it's unfeasible. Senators Akaka and Inouye, you are excused.
Some of them, unfortunately, like this war. Senator Lieberman, we don't expect you there.
And some of them are so opportunistic, so devoid of conscience that it would be alarming if they did show up. Allen Boyd, please don't think of visiting Crawford.
But there is one person who has no excuse. She is not unwell. Her district is not so very far from Crawford. She has signed onto the demand that the president address the Downing Street Memo, even mentioning Cindy Sheehan and using Sheehan's picture at the hearings that John Conyers held. Most tellingly, she occupies the district and claims the mantle of the legendary Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. She knows that her presence could help to prevent the president's bullyboys from pushing the protestors around.
The one Democrat who absolutely, positively ought to be in Crawford with Cindy Sheehan, willing to go to jail with Sheehan if necessary, is The Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee
Please remind her of her duty.

Well, I don't know if Rep. Lee made it to Crawford, but she was one of the signatories to this letter.
