The Peter Pan non-apology apology

How many times have we heard it? "If I did something wrong, I'm sorry." You know that the person saying that is telling themselves that they didn't do anything wrong and they're not sorry. Here's Zucchino and Moore telling the tale in their wildly mistitled piece in the LAT: "To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said. "Bush takes responsibility!", the headlines blare. But of course, Zucchino and Moore drain the one small piece of truth that Laura Jakes Jones of the AP laconically nailed: It was the closest Bush has come to publicly finding fault with any federal officials involved in the hurricane response... Some federal officials have sought to fault state and local officials for being unprepared to cope with the disaster. Bush hasn't admitted to any wrongdoing at all. If Brownie did something wrong, Bush is sorry, but he didn't so Bush isn't. Pfui. It's just one more gd Republican non-apology apology. Like in Peter Pan, I guess a lot of little boys never really do grow up.
