Statistics that make you go "hmmm"

From Andrew Buncombe at the London Independent US forces have fired so many bullets in Iraq and Afghanistan - an estimated 250,000 for every insurgent killed - that American ammunition-makers cannot keep up with demand. As a result the US is having to import supplies from Israel.
250,000 per dead insurgent?!

Let's assume twenty-five bullets go into a pound (this is roughly averaging the weights of the various calibers used). 250,000 divided by 25 = 20,000 pounds, or ten TONS.

The bullet makers have gotta be happy.

In fact, that's all I've been able to say since reading it. At this point, they have chained me to a stake placed in the center of the room.
