Libby and Judy, Sittin' In A Swing

Kos alerts us to this sickening billet doux of Libby's, addressed to Judy Miller. Remember when respectable journalists simply didn't hobnob with the power élite? Remember when they spat on those of their fellows who did so? If Edward R. Murrow or George Polk were alive to read that note, they'd be marching down to the NYT building to chew out Miller's bosses for letting her become such a suckup at the very least, and a willing partner/tool of the Bushistas at the very worst. (Especially if they knew of her history.) Then again, if Murrow or Polk were alive, they'd have either formed their own news network or joined up with Pacifica.

It is a very strange letter indeed.

Uh-huh. I see it as Scooter warning Judy not to squeal on him. But the thing is that the Bushistas, unless they have access to the GJ records -- which, though Bush has worked to try and get a crony installed as Fitzgerald's boss, does not seem to have happened yet (to judge from Fitz' demeanor, he would have immediately made sure we all knew about it, if it had) -- well, they have no way to know exactly who said exactly what, so it's tough for her to know how to tailor her testimony.

She could try the Sergeant Schultz Defense, but I suspect that Fitz has enough stuff by now, especially from Matt Cooper, to blow big fat holes in that defense AND put her up on charges of perjury.
