The Part They Don't Mention
Yesterday's StarTribune featured two puff-piece mini-travelogues (here and here) on Phoenix, Arizona, and environs -- which are now part of the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. What the article didn't mention is that Phoenix, along with most of the western US, is in the midst of a very nasty drought that is likely directly related to human-caused global warming. Or that California and Arizona have been fighting for years over the waters of the Colorado and other area rivers. I suspect that Phoenix's rapid growth is about to butt up against reality -- and the fact that Los Angeles has more political pull than they do.
