Sex, the Church, and Africa

One of the concerns held by liberal and moderate Christian churchgoers is how the rich religious right wingers, frustrated in losing the culture war in Europe and North America, are looking to install persons from places percieved as more socially conservative -- say, Africa -- in prominent positions in the Catholic and Anglican/Episcopalian faiths. Which is why it did my heart good to see that South Africa, at least, has given the back of its hand to the bigots once again, and is backing same-sex marriages. And it's nice to see the the newest Archbishop of York, who just happens to be a native of Uganda and the first African-born man to be an archbishop in the Church of England, is both gay-friendly and favors ordaining women as priests.
