The UAE Will Not Take Control of Six U.S. Ports
If the deal goes through, that UAE government-owned company will take control of 21 U.S. ports.
For me, it's not "the UAE" part that's the problem. It's the "anybody outside the United States" part. For that matter, it's the "private profit-making corporation controlling what should be a government responsibility" part.
Seems to me Grover Norquist's buddies are tired of waiting for the government to shrink to bathtub-size, so they've decided to drown it in the harbor.
country A has aided, funded and sheltered known terrorist groups
country B has aided, funded and sheltered known terrorist groups
country A refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist and endorses its destruction
country B refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist and endorses its destruction
country A has a record of human rights violations that earns them a rating
by the US State Dept as one of the worst in the world
country B has a record of human rights violations that earns them a rating
by the US State Dept as one of the worst in the world
country A has a repressive government, in which there are no elections
country B has a repressive government, in which there are limited elections
country A practices slavery on a large scale
country B does not
our president wants to hire country A to run our ports
and invade country B as a threat to our national security
does this make sense to you?
Who's in charge of country X, the country that is choosing to befriend A and attack B?
It makes perfect sense.
_____
As for the overall episode, I am not sure which is the worst:
* The assumption of Bushco that it could break the law
* The flagrant lying they knew they could get away with
* The contempt for American workers
* The fact that no American company is competent to run these ports
* The actual security risks
