A Bad Joke

Satire isn't dead, it's paralyzed with shock. The National Defense University Foundation Announces the Establishment of the Colin L. Powell Chair for National Security Leadership, Character and Ethics

General Powell’s extraordinary life of military, government, and private service to his nation exemplifies the ideals the Chair is established to uphold. General Powell is a graduate of the National War College and a recipient of the National Defense University Foundation’s American Patriot Award.
But wait, it gets better:
“Mr. Broaddus and the other members of the Board of Directors are especially pleased that General Richard B. Myers, USAF (Ret), 15th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be the first incumbent of the Powell Chair,” according to General Link.
And better still:
Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Duncan Hunter also added: "I have personally witnessed General Myers in the middle of the arena that we call Washington, D.C., under enormous political pressure that attends most major security decisions. Never was a national leader more courageous. General Myers exemplifies integrity and loyalty to his oath of services that will be well reflected in his new role molding American military leaders."
So they are: honoring Colin Powell, whose career ranges from covering up the My Lai massacre through lying to the United Nations, for "leadership, character and ethics"; choosing as the first incumbent General Richard Myers, who as George W. Bush's chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff supported an illegal war, the decimation of our military forces, and the violation of U.S. law and international treaties against abuse of prisoners; and justifying the choice of General Myers with a quote from Duncan Hunter, who is implicated in the bribery scandal that sent "Duke" Cunningham to prison. And the National Defense University describes itself as "America’s preeminent institution for military, civilian, and diplomatic national security, education, research, outreach and strategic studies." I think that all of these words do not mean what they think they mean.
And soon to be announced:

* The Ken Lay Chair in Financial Accounting

* The George W. Bush Peace Prize, and

* The Heidi Fleiss Medal of Virginity

The NDU Foundation's decision to honor the man who personally sold the Iraq lies to the world is a signal of a society in terminal decline.
