Why The Best Bloggers Often Beat The Best Newspapers

When the best bloggers make a boo-boo, they let you know all about it. (Read the whole post to see what I mean.) Try to imagine, say, Judith Miller or Jeff Gerth doing similar, real-time mea culpas over their far more egregious "boo-boos" WRT Iraq, Whitewater and Wen Ho Lee, and without being heavily prodded to do so. No, I can't, either.

Comments:
Have either Gerth or Miller issued a mea culpa or an apology?

I didn't think so.

The closest Miller came to it was something to the effect that everyone got it wrong. Gerth vanished, only to re-emerge on the NSA story, where he will get a chance to screw that up.

Anyway, on the substance, you are oh so very right. Atrios all but donned the hair shirt over an incident that Professor Redneck would have dealt with by deleting the post. A little humility goes a long way toward producing good analysis and commentary.
