Libby's Defense Team Continues To Obfuscate

Lewis Libby's defense against the perjury charge is pure Bushevism: spin the truth until it falls down and pukes, then smear your opponent.

The lawyer for former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby said on Friday he would argue that his client revealed intelligence on Iraq after Vice President Dick Cheney authorized it and President George W. Bush declassified the information. [...] Wells also said he planned to attack the credibility of Wilson, a former ambassador. He said he planned to call five witnesses who would say that Wilson told them about his wife working at the CIA.
Would somebody please remind Libby's lawyers that he's not charged with leaking classified information, he's charged with perjury? Whether the information was declassified and whether Joe Wilson had ever told anybody his wife worked at the CIA is not relevant to whether Libby lied to the grand jury about conversations he had with reporters. The old saying goes, "The best defense is a good offense." Libby, unfortunately, isn't launching a good offense. By deliberately misrepresenting the crime he's charged with and by continuing the smears against Joe Wilson, he's just being offensive.
