Condi Speaks in Code

In a press briefing before her trip to the Middle East, Condoleezza Rice said (emphasis mine),

What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East and whatever we do we have to be certain that we're pushing forward to the new Middle East not going back to the old one.
Birth pangs? Odd way to describe all those deaths. Or maybe not....
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: All this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Good catch, MEC.

They really are talking to their base, leaving the rest of us scratching our heads wondering why there are so many funerals at this birth.

I suppose that for those who worship violence and death, each new war is new life-- taken.

I wonder exactly who it is feeding them their Bible references, though, since I find it hard to believe that any of them really do all that Bible Study they claim to. Cf. Lynn Westmoreland, the Georgia Congressman who co-sponsored a bill requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in the House of Reps and the Senate, but who doesn't know them himself.
