Purge That Urge To Surge, Mister Thirty Percent

The Pentagon tells Thirty-Percent Bush to forget about his fantasy of a 20,000-troop "surge". For one thing, there are only 9,000 troops available for surging. Meanwhile, Trent Lott -- the Senate Minority Whip -- hints that he isn't too keen on Bush's "surge" plans. Ah, payback. Four years after Rove and Bush took advantage of the Strom Thurmond eulogy scandal to replace Lott with Frist in the Majority Leader job, Lott gets to pointedly remind Bush that there are indeed three separate branches of government, and that even the Senate GOP Caucus is no longer inclined to blindly follow Bush's every whim. Especially since a large number of that caucus is up for re-election in two years, and the last thing they want is to be linked to a guy whose approval ratings are already at near-historic lows. And just in case Bush didn't get the message, Reid and Pelosi unite to tell Bush that they oppose Bush's "surge" and that it's time to start the un-surge.

Comments:
The only "surge" the President and the press should be paying attention to is the surge in opposition to having ANY troops in Iraq.
