Just Say No To Joe: Southern Strategy Edition
The Senator from MBNA, Joe Biden, really seems intent on proving that he's a Democrat In Name Only.
He's most infamous for his rabid advocacy for the usury industry, a noted Republican pillar. But he's also shown that he's willing to emulate today's Republicans in another way, by waxing poetic about The Good Old Days before the slaves were freed:
26 days after Democrats win the mid-terms, Joe Biden exhorts the Republican party to "get back up." Then, Biden (D-Hair Club for Men) claims that, just because the country voted Democrats back into power, that doesn't mean the country really endorsed them. And then, Biden uses South Carolina's pro-slavery past as a "humorous" talking point, to pander to Republicans who think viewing South Carolina's Articles of Secession is the ideal way to celebrate a white Christmas. Even for testing the waters in a Southern state with an early 2008 primary, this is beyond absurd.That's not been Biden's only, erm, racial faux pas recently. Back in July, he gave us this gem of ethnic understanding:
In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.Of course, questionable race attitudes and a demonstrated subservience to the banking industry aren't Biden's only ethical problems. Biden's first attempt to run for president, back in 1988, got squished when it was discovered that he'd not only plagiarized extensively from Bobby Kennedy and the UK Labour Party's Neil Kinnock, but that he'd flunked a law school course when he was caught lifting five whole pages from a legal article with only a single footnote for attribution.
