The Right-Wing's "New Orleans Buses" Myth

As y'all know by now, Chief Conservative Talking Point #1 in the Let's Defend BushCo By Any Means Necessary Derby is to claim that the city had plenty of school buses alone -- "two thousand" being the standard number the Bush Defenders fling around -- with which to evacuate the poor. Well, guess what? #1: New Orleans had only 364 school buses -- not exactly the "two thousand" the cons claim. Together with the transit buses, that adds up to around 700 buses. (Oh, and 70 of them were out of commission at the time.) #2: The buses couldn't have been used, no matter how many there were, because their drivers had all evacuated ahead of the storm. Please pass this along to any newsies you see.
